At The Highlands at Wyomissing our
interest goes beyond adding years to life as we seek to add life to years.
To this end, The Highlands at Wyomissing has an extensive activity program tailored to
meet the physical, intellectual, creative, and spiritual needs of our residents.
This wide variety of programming is designed to enhance and promote independence and
personal choice.
Fitness is a priority. In addition to our well-equipped gym and
indoor swimming pool, residents enjoy exercise classes, line dancing, golfing on our
driving range and putting green, bowling, gardening, shuffleboard, billiards, quoits,
water aerobics, table tennis, and social dances.
Educational Enrichment and Alvernia Senior College courses provide
intellectual stimulation by featuring lectures and classes by professors from local
universities on many current affair topics, as well as topics in the social and physical
sciences. Residents also enjoy computer classes, Public Affairs Breakfasts with
community speakers in the spring and fall, and the American Association of Retired Persons
(AARP) safe-driving course that is offered semiannually.
The Highlands at Wyomissing has computers (with large screen monitors)
that are available exclusively for residents' use. The computers have Internet
access, as well as games, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation
programs. As a result, many residents have established free Internet e-mail
accounts and enjoy using the Internet to communicate with their family and friends.
The Highlands at Wyomissing offers bus transportation to many local
civic productions, the symphony and other concerts, lectures, and community events.
Special events include dances, outdoor band concerts, slide
presentations, musical programs, and socials. Weekly movies, travelogues, card
parties, and shopping trips are also enjoyed.
The Highlands at Wyomissing's activity programming also includes
activities to foster creativity including quilting, knitting, woodworking, craft classes,
painting, flower arranging, cooking, singing, and participating in the bell choir.
Trip destinations include New York City theatres, museums, local
restaurants, cruises, the seashore, dinner theatres, New England, Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina, and many more interesting places.
Spiritual activities enjoyed by residents include a well-attended
weekly Bible study led by local ministers and rabbis. There are also hymn sings,
religious musical programs, lectures, slide shows, and weekly transportation to local
churches.
Residents are kept informed by the Weekly
Bulletin (PDF) and an
in-house television station that features daily programs produced by Highlands' residents.
This abundance of activities contributes significantly to our
residents' unique energy and enthusiasm. |
