The Highlands at Wyomissing values
the health and wellness of all residents and is committed to provide the opportunity for
each resident to enhance the quality of their life. Our emphasis is on the
preservation of health and wellness, while respecting each resident's right to determine
their own desire for health care. We view health and wellness as a combination of
physical, mental, and social well being.
There is a Health and Wellness suite where preventative programs and
advice are offered, such as lectures on various physical and mental health topics, blood
pressure clinics, health fairs, as well as the availability of educational materials such
as videos, pamphlets, and books on various health related topics. A wide variety of
community resources are also available.
The Health and Wellness office is staffed 365 days a year with
dedicated, professional nurses. The Resident Services staff provide support to the
Health and Wellness nurses to ensure that each resident's health and wellness needs are
met. The Health and Wellness nurses and the Resident Services staff also participate
on an interdepartmental team that assesses the appropriate level of care of each
resident.
Other services available through the Health and Wellness office
include:
- Emergency and non-emergency access to a professional nurse 24 hours a day.
- Forty-eight (48) hour managed care in each resident's cottage or apartment after
returning from the hospital or a higher level of care.
- Assistance with completing each resident's Elder Alert information (i.e., emergency
information that all residents are asked to keep in an orange tube in their refrigerator).
- Therapy services are provided in our well-equipped, on-site
Rehabilitation Department. The major goal of the Rehabilitation Department is to
promote functional independence, maintain wellness, and prevent disabilities of
residents. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are available on an
inpatient basis to Nursing residents and on an outpatient basis to other Highlands'
residents.
- Daily laboratory courier services from an affiliated hospital.
- Room meal service, when medically approved.
- Medical transportation.
- Annual flu vaccine clinics.
- Assistance with arranging for Home Health Care services.
