Why Moving into The Highlands at Wyomissing Is Easier Than You Expect

Posted on June 4, 2021

Are you ready to carpe the diem, enjoy a life free of chores – filled with possibility and a schedule that’s yours to create? That’s the retirement lifestyle you’ll enjoy when you move to The Highlands at Wyomissing.

“Making the move to The Highlands may be easier than you think,” says Kevin DeAcosta, President and CEO of The Highlands at Wyomissing, the only nonprofit Life Care Community in Berks County, PA. “A lot of older adults may put off a move to a Life Care Community because they think it will require a lot of work that they just don’t want to deal with right now. The fact is, though, that moving early in your retirement will make your golden years that much more enjoyable. And it doesn’t have to be difficult! For example, at The Highlands, we have an established system and tips for moving into senior living to help our residents and family members make the transition as smooth as possible.”

Making The Highlands Your Home Sweet Home: 8 Simple Steps

Step 1: Take a Tour
Once you’ve decided that The Highlands at Wyomissing is a place you might want to call home, we’d like to invite you to lunch and give you the opportunity to learn more about our community, residents, services, amenities and more in a relaxed and casual setting. First, you’ll enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our professional chefs. Then, we’ll answer questions about our Life Care Community (such as information about our contracts, our care services and more) and then we’ll take you on a tour of the campus. We’d love to share as much information as possible with you, so please let us know what you’re most interested in learning about. We understand that choosing a retirement community is a big decision, so we are here for you to help make the decision that much easier. Want to speak to current residents? Need specifics about our indoor, saltwater, heated pool? Interested in hearing about the partnerships we have with healthcare providers in the area? No question is off-limits – we want to make sure you have all the information you need.

Step 2: Join our Future Resident Club
Intrigued by the life available at The Highlands? When you become a member of our Future Resident Club, you’re not only taking that first step towards a worry-free future; you’re also making a commitment to your (and your family’s) peace of mind. You may not be planning to make your move to The Highlands at Wyomissing for one, five, or even ten years, but you can still start preparing now and reap the many benefits.

Step 3: Submit Your Application and Deposit
To join, simply submit your application along with a fully refundable $1,500 fee. Joining the Future Resident Club at The Highlands gives you a multitude of perks and privileges that allow you to get to know us, our community and even gain deep relationships with current residents – all without having to move in right away.

Step 7: Customize Your Home
When you choose to make your move to our beautiful community, you’re teamed up with our interior designer who will get to know your tastes, lifestyle and personal style to create a sanctuary out of your new home. Weeks before your move date, the interior designer will allow you to choose between numerous options for paint, floor covering, cabinets and countertops and more to make your new home distinctively yours.

Step 8: Get Ready To Move
For many people, the worst part of moving is the actual move. With boxes to pack, items to account for, downsizing and the trust you must place in movers, it’s not a wonder that some give up before they pack the first box. A Highlands Senior Move Manager can take care of it all for you. Our Senior Move Manager will help you downsize and sort your belongings, schedule your move, and even organize your new home so when you step into your new community, you can start enjoying your retirement right away. Our Senior Move Managers are happy to provide an array of services such as:

●      Free consultation to develop a plan for your move

●      Floor plan design

●      Downsizing and sorting assistance

●      Professional packing and unpacking using quality supplies

●      Scheduling and directing movers
