'Tis the Season to Enjoy the Holidays at The Highlands

December at The Highlands at Wyomissing® is truly something special. As the campus sparkles with holiday decorations and a spirit of warmth, residents can enjoy a full calendar of events that celebrate community, creativity, and connection. From concerts and crafts to fitness fun and festive outings, this month delivers something magical every single day.

We began the season with a brand-new tradition: a beautiful tree lighting in the main lounge paired with an evening of cheerful caroling, an intergenerational favorite. Residents sipped cocoa, enjoyed cookies, and sang along with talented young performers, creating the perfect start to a festive month. And, whether you love classic carols, brass ensembles, or simply the joy of singing together, December is filled with musical performances sure to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Our stunning poinsettia tree display, a cherished tradition through which residents are invited to honor and remember loved ones adorns our rotunda as a beautiful symbol of life, love, and caring throughout the season.  And our mischievous friend McJingles the Elf has also returned and is sure to get into his usual holiday shenanigans.

Residents can bundle up and admire the sparkling beauty of local holiday displays during our Wednesday evening Holiday Light Tours or spend a full day immersed in holiday magic with shopping, a festive buffet, live entertainment, and a tour of more than 1,200 nativities on the Star Barn Christmas & National Christmas Center trip. For those who enjoy festive dining experiences, a holiday dinner at Dan's at Green Hills offers wonderful food with a side of holiday cheer, while the Bird-in-Hand Stage delivers a family-friendly show filled with music, laughter, and ventriloquism, paired with a delicious smorgasbord lunch.

There are plenty of opportunities for creativity and wellness, too. Our beloved therapy dog Fiona will be visiting to help ease the bustle of the season as residents make treats for their own pets or to donate to animals awaiting adoption. And because the holidays can bring both joy and tender emotions, The Highlands also offers meaningful opportunities for reflection and support, including a Blue Christmas Service and other gatherings designed to provide warmth and connection.

The Winter & Holiday Fragrant Naturals Workshop invites residents to craft colonial-style décor using citrus, cinnamon, pine, and botanicals. And for culinary adventurers, this month brings cookie socials, Cooking with Kevin, an International Laotian Cuisine Luncheon, and a community-wide effort to build a Highlands holiday cookie cookbook. For those looking to stay active amid all the delicious holiday food, our Seasonal Wellness offerings include the fun and festive 12 Days of Christmas Exercise Class (holiday attire encouraged)!

The month concludes with a lively New Year’s celebration, complete with live music, dancing, and a joyful welcome to 2026. Whether you’re singing carols, crafting fragrant décor, enjoying winter lights, or simply sharing warm moments with friends, December at The Highlands is filled with opportunities to celebrate the season.

Here’s to a joyful, heartwarming month filled with community, connection, and cheer. Happy holidays from all of us at The Highlands at Wyomissing®!
